The F-E electronic racks and the computing farm racks are based on the same mechanical rack structure, 19" standard LEP racks. However, a clear distinction has to be made between these two different kind of racks because they have major differences. This is principally due to the different kind of cooling systems both rack types have.
The network switches and the ECS system (PCs + Switches) will use the same rack
cooling
system as the one for the PC farm. This cooling is based on a horizontal open
air flow. The cooling unit is integrated in the back door of the PC racks
and consists of an heat exchangers with fans extracting the air.
All other electronics equipments will be based on
the "standard rack" implementation with a vertical recirculating air flow (turbine
unit, heat exchangers, fan trays and deflector).
