Rack distribution in the counting house:

The barracks or counting house names have been voluntary left like they were for the Delphi experiment (D1, D2 and D3) to avoid any confusion.

The third floor is a bit special. We decided to rename it D3. The old names of these to different barracks (forming now the third floor) were A2 and B3. In order to make a distinction between these two parts of D3, it has been decided to call them part A and part B. The other reason to do so is because the air cooling (air-conditioning) is done in these two barrack parts by two different cooling blocks (exchangers).

The racks in the counting house are all of the same type: Recuperated standard 19" LEP racks. Two height of standard 19" racks are available in the counting house, 56 and 59U.

The maximum mains electrical power available is 11kW per rack. The electrical power is distributed in the racks via an electrical distribution box situated on the back top of the racks (behind the turbine unit for the F-E racks). The electrical distribution box offers 7 Burndy output plugs with single phase.

The counting house racks can house a maximum of 2 TELL1 crates (9U crate) with all equipments required like patch panels, TTCoc, Ethernet switch for ECS links, cooling fans, turbine units and heat exchanger. For more information about crates: Electronic crates page

On the links below, the rack list and rack layout for each barrack is given.

Barrack Level Racks (max number and type) Air cooling System
D1 1st Floor 50 Racks 59 Units 50 kW DAQ: Computing farm
D2 2nd Floor 50 Racks 59 Units 50 kW DAQ: Switches, ECS
D3 (A part) 3rd Floor 26 Racks 56 Units 25 kW Detectors F-E Electronics
D3 (B part) 3rd Floor 17 Racks 56 Units 25 kW Detectors F-E Electronics

Rack wizard tool:

A "database viewer" called "rack wizard" is now available to see the rack layout in the counting house. This rack wizard tool allows the users to enter and place all equipment that will take place in the racks and to link those equipments with cables. For the moment, it is still in a final development phase and the users can only use the rack wizard to view the rack layout.

For this, Java 1.4.2 or later must be installed on your computer: https://oraweb.cern.ch/pls/lhcbintegration/docs/EMDH.html (log in as “read only”)

For more information on rack wizard, the LHC group has made two interesting EDMS documents:
