RACK WIZARD - (EMDH) Equipment Management Data Handler

The Rack Wizard is a graphical database interface for electronics configuration. Racks, crates, electronics boards as well as interconnections with cables can be entered and visualized using rack wizard.

Access LHCb Rack Wizard.

Application can be open here : Rack Wizard

The Glance project is a web based visualization tool allowing the users to see all cable, rack, crate and electronic board entries in the material database. It is a complementary tool that can be used in parallel with rack wizard in order to enter the cable assignment for example. It is easy to use and allow to view all database fields of a given object. The search interface allows to find easily any object. Glance project for LHCb is accessible here : At Glance Lhcb

To get a write access to the rack wizard, please contact Laurent Roy or Dirk Wiedner to open an account.

Entering sub detector cables:

All cables to and on sub detectors should be in the database.

The simplest way to enter them is to send a excel sheet

with the description for a group of cables to Dirk Wiedner

Below You can find several examples:

FAQ:

Q: Why is my cable missing?

A: It is possible to delete cables from the data base, when deleting crates using rackwizard,

if cables connected to channels directly on the crate (not on boards).

Q: How do I connect 8x12 multi ribbon fibers?

A: The multi ribbon fiber is implemented in the data base as a parent 8x12 fiber with 8 child cables unchangeable attached to each side. Please connect the eight child cables to the patch panel on the starting point and afterwards the 8 child cables at the patch panels at the end point.

Q: How do I make sure that the StartDet and EndDet entries for cables are set correctly?

A: If possible connect the cable first on the start point then (in the same session) to the end point. If You had to close the session in between it will help to click on the "end point" box of the cables first connection and then proceed with the end point connection.

Q: Why can I not enter anything to a generic board taken from the rightmost column and dropped into my crate?

A: The generic board is meant for the creation of a board template. Drag the generic board and drop it back to the same column (template column). You can now enter the templates properties. After finalizing You boards template drag and drop it to Your crates and make specific entries.

Q: Why can I not enter anything to a generic crate taken from the rightmost column and dropped into my crate?

A: The generic crate is meant for the creation of a crate template. Drag the generic crate and drop it back to the same column (template column). You can now enter the templates properties. After finalizing You crates template drag and drop it to Your rack and make specific entries.

Q: Why can't I rename the generic connector?

A: See above. The generic connector serves only the creation of a connector template.
