Racks :

The racks will be equipped with different elements whether it is installed in the cavern near the detector or in the counting house (barracks) protected from radiations and magnetic field.

For example, the turbine units for the racks in the cavern must be equipped with magnetic shields on the motors. Fans do not work at a magnetic field above 40 Gauss, therefore, no fan tray or single fan can be installed in the detector region (cavern). This means that the dissipated power in a rack is more limited when this rack is in the cavern than when it is installed in the counting house. Low voltage power supplies must be water cooled because no fan works above 40 Gauss.

In LHCb the magnetic stray field tolerance requirement as been determined to be less than 200 Gauss in most regions where racks might be presents.
