All the cables (copper and optical fibers) to be placed between the "patch panel racks" of the sub-detectors in the cavern and the counting house racks need to be clearly defined. All of them have to respect the safety instruction IS-23 (IS-41 for plastics).
One cable document has been
written per sub-detector. These
documents list all cable requirements for a given sub-detector and all of its
sub-systems. The starting and ending point of the long distance cables, the
cable routes as well as the patch panel rack layout are given in those
documents.
A general document describes all common patch panels and location of
racks. These documents are still under work. A first approval process has been
launched and a new (and hopefully final) version of all documents will be
uploaded soon.
These documents define all required long distance cables from sub-detectors patch panels to counting house racks. The lists these EDMS documents contain have served as reference lists for purchasing all cables and will serve to enter all cables in database before installing them in the UX85 LHCb cavern.
